1949 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe Sellers Notes

PRICE SLASHED $2,000! This California rust-free 1949 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe (top-of-line trim) is in imaculate condition. ALL STOCK with and seldom driven since frame-on restoration several years ago by professional resto shop. Body and paint are in near perfect condition. Excellent chrome; beautiful interior with custom painted dash and trim. Runs and drives excellent with no mechanical issues. The engine is an inline 6-cylinder 216 ci with a manual synchromesh 3-speed - the only powertrain offered in this period.

Chevrolet overhauled its entire lineup in 1949, moving from prewar designs to brand new cars with modern full-width bodies and pontoon fenders. The years 1949 through 1952 models, the fastback was the only model offered. These cars had reduced body contour and integrated rear fenders. It was referred to as a "fastback" because of its distinct sloping roof which extended through to the trunk lid. The Fleetline during these years also had a lower look than a sedan, with the windshield being one inch shorter in height than a standard sedan.

The Fleetline series is highly collectable today, with its sleek looks. Many are made into street rods, with the common Chevrolet 350 Small block V8 and the 350 or 400 turbo transmission; tons of under hood space make it an easy conversion. Some modified versions with big money invested in V-8 engines and cosmetic restyling have brought huge auction prices. Single-piece bumpers (instead of the riveted three-piece ones used elsewhere) were installed only on cars built in California or Canada, and these are highly sought and aren't reproduced; the early grill, simple dashboard and fairly restrained use of chrome trim on the 1949 models is also prized by many. Prices for factory-correct stock condition cars are slowly rising, but are still affordable for many buyers. This particular model has been flat for three years, but since January has started to rise; many auction experts say this car is behind the market and may be at the begining of a major uptrend.

The only reason this fabulous fastback is being sold is for more space for other projects. Offered at $22,900. For a 33-photo slide show go to www.mycarguy-sf.com.
