Can be registered legally in California.  My Car Guy is the only source for 50-state legal versions of the Mercedes-Benz designed and built 4-year-old European model smart fortwo coupes and cabriolets from Germany. This car is fully compliant with US and California safety and emissions requirements.  The European smart cars (model 450) substantially differ from the smart cars sold new in the U.S. (model 451):

• Mercedes-Benz engine vs. Mitsubishi engine in the U.S. car.  The Mercedes-Benz engines have a history of nearly zero reliability problems over the past six years; nearly 700,000 model 450s have been sold have been sold world wide.  
• the European car has the original Swatch-influenced and highly-acclaimed design that sits in the permanent collection of New York's MoMA; the U.S. cars have a bulbous dash design, amoung other changes. 
• the European car weigh more than 200 lbs. less than the U.S. cars, and are 9 inches shorter in length; they feel more responsive than the U.S. cars.
• Euro-spec 40-60 MPG, U.S. 33-41 MPG.
• In 2004 the smart model 450 was named the least polluting car in the world, ahead of more than 1.200 cars.

An affiliate of ours is a Burlingame mechanic trained in Europe, and he has five model 450 customers (cars bought from another source but not legal to register in California).  So we have excellent maintenance and repair for these cars.  Offered at $15,900.
